The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is an advance degreed nurse who works closely with all of the neurosurgery team members to manage the neurotrauma patient. The NP has specialized skills and training in managing the care of the patient while in the hospital.
Current Professional Interests and Activities
Currently Amy is focused on increasing the education, treatment, and clinical follow-up of patients with mild Traumatic Brain Injury, or concussion. She is teaming with the Dept. of Social Work at SFGH to make sure that all patients seen in the Emergency Department with mild TBI are given educational materials and health counseling prior to discharge, and that they have access to follow-up care when needed. Amy also attends community outreach events in San Francisco in order to increase public awareness of TBI prevention and to offer education regarding the impact of TBI in the community.
Education and Training
Amy completed her Master’s of Science in Nursing at the University of San Francisco in 2006, and her Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification at the UCSF School of Nursing in 2010. She worked on the Neurology and Neurosurgery floor at UCSF for 5 years before taking her current position as Nurse Practitioner at San Francisco General Hospital.
