TRACK-TBI Pilot Initiative

John is the Clinical Trial Manager of the prospective multicenter "Transforming Research and Clinical Knowledge in Traumatic Brain Injury (TRACK-TBI) U01" (2014-18), and previously the "TRACK-TBI Pilot RC2" (2010-14), funded by NIH and NINDS with the goals of developing, testing, and implementing the NIH Common Data Elements for TBI. TRACK-TBI is among the first prospective population-based TBI studies to incorporate clinical presentation, medical history, acute care treatment, genetics and proteomics, advanced neuroimaging, and multidimensional neurocognitive outcomes into a single, integrated, longitudinal data repository. The rich phenotypic information from TRACK-TBI will serve to standardize and improve existing classification systems as well as inform and initiate multivariable prognostic approaches for future work in the field.

John is responsible for the management of milestone progress; site goals and objectives; protocol development; patient recruitment and retention; biomarker identification; cognitive and psychiatric assessment; data curation and analysis; external monitoring; IRB, GCP, and regulatory compliance; and advising in multicenter working groups.

John's concurrent projects include: primary and secondary injury proteomic biomarkers, structural and functional neuroimaging, genetic susceptibility to TBI-related impairment, and acute spinal cord injury recovery.

John is a fourth-year medical student at the UCSF School of Medicine. His interests include operative neurosurgery, traumatic brain injury, spine and spinal cord injury, concussion, critical care, biomarkers, genetics, outcomes, translational research, statistical modeling, and neurosurgical education.
